Ada Ok to Granbury TX,
Slipped out of work a little early to try and beat the storms,Danny yelled across the ramp asking what all the stuff I had strapped to my motorcycle, I told him that the little bag was my computer and electronic stuff, Jackie’s dad would be proud!!!! He said that he had never seen a hells angel with a computer…..
Karma, of course caught me and one of the aircraft had a problem, stopped to get the computer out and stayed in Weatherford, new hotel and very nice. Dinner at logans and a drive over to the Victory motorcycle bike night. Lots of beautiful bikes there. Of course, mine was looking good. Ride down the turnpike was a very peaceful ride, lots of hawks and even a fox.
I felt very much at peace with the world. I miss Jackie and Melissa but excited at the same time to head out on a new adventure

Granbury TX to Orange TX

Arrived in Granbury around 7:45 to meet Shan, Jerry and Ennis, we will pick up James in Hillsboro. Ride down hwy 51 was a trip down memory lane, I drove this road every day for 12 years to go to work, can’t tell you how happy I am to be in Ada, I miss our friends but my mental health has steadily improved over the last 2 years. I am finally doing what I love to do.
A little after 8 we departed on the ride. I had to run by the hotel to get a stuffed animal that my baby girl left in Granbury on our last visit. Look for the pink monkey in the pictures, if I am gonna carry this monkey all over the US then I am gonna get pictures of it and send them to Melissa.
We met up again in Cresson Texas and headed south. It was very nice to just ride, no worries no stress just riding along without a worry. I understand now why in the movie “easy rider” peter Fonda threw his watch away as he threw a leg over his scooter.
Construction on 35 caused a little frustration finding James but we finally got everyone together and headed in the same direction. Really nice roads, we stayed off of the interstate and took small state highways, still made good time but less stress. A little slice of America never hurt anyone. Ate lunch in Palestine Texas and then off to Orange.
We had to get on the interstate from Beaumont to orange(IH-10) what a night mare, the destruction from all the hurricanes was almost overwhelming, everywhere we looked there were piles of debris and ruined homes and buildings, I can liken it to the war destruction I have seen around the world. Where do people get the stregenth to get completely wiped out and still rebuild and go on, I believe that I would not have the will to continue and move to someplace safe like …..Well where is a safe place to live?
Pulled into Orange and called my old friends Lynn and Jenny, one of the strongest families you have ever seen, the girls have grown up and are so beautiful, the grand children are the age of the girls when I first met them almost 20 years ago, It was like time had returned to a different, earlier time,I miss those days
We went to eat at a Cajun Seafood house and WOW what a feast, great food and those Cajun families’ .eat, dance and laugh all the time as well as talk a little funny. I had a wonderful time. The Bridge over the Bayou was about a mile straight up, very scary. But you could see for miles and miles.
Jenny and I drove up to see Lindsey, she had to work and could not join us, she is a little cutie and has a big beautiful smile It was so good to see them all.

Orange TX TO New Orleans

Short 4 hour ride to new Orleans, pretty riding along the coast, when we arrived in NO you could just feel that it is an angry city, roads were terrible and signs hard to follow, we all got lost and by the time we finally found the Air Show it was almost over, oh well although we had planned to stay in NO for the night we got the h*ll out of there and headed to Gulfport MS, once we got east of Slidell La my mood changed again and I got back in rhythm with the universe, although the hurricanes took a lot of the houses along the coast of LA there were still tons of beauty, some of the prettiest nature I have ridden through. We rode along the beach, in the sand to Gulfport, sand was blowing and the salt air was thick, I was getting sunburned and probably look like the joker because of the smile on my face from the pretty beach. Waffle house must really be popular here we saw at least 10 in a 10 mile stretch of road. Now I want a waffle 
We found a place to stay and had dinner at the Hotel/casino, played a little craps and won enough for dinner YAHOOO. Very nice hotel and the people were top notch Enjoyed the stay.

Gulfport Ms to Pensacola fl.

No longer riding along the beach still very pretty area, sky looks threatening but as of yet we have dodged the rain. As we left Mississippi and entered Alabama we once again got lost but it was cool because we found the U.S.S. Alabama memorial. We decided to take a look, and boy am I glad we did. There was a colonel there that was a WWII POW, he had written a book about the death camps on Bataan Island in the Philippines, I highly recommend his book and you can find out more on his web site www.hellsguest.com.
The ship was very interesting and I am glad that I did not have to sail on it. It was very small compared to the ship I was on. Those boys did not have it very comfortable but I am sure that like me they have fond memories of their time on the ship. Funny how your view changes as you get older and smarter, I remember being so excited when we pulled out for a 6 month cruise the first time, I would not want to do that now. We also toured a Submarine the USS Bell…not a chance, I was closterphobic and it was on dry land.
Next we were off to Pensacola and the Beach. Rode through Pensacola and I got to thinking about all the friends that had been stationed there or went to school, wonder if Tony still lives there, riding along getting lost in thought makes you wonder what they are doing now, Tony was the last one I knew that lived there, need to look him up.
Rode over a couple of really long bridges, sign says “ check fuel ,long bridge ahead.” And arrived at a very busy and commercialized beach. We stopped in a bar/restaurant and took seats right on the beach, I had a dozen raw oysters for the first time in a long time…sure were good. After sitting for awhile I decided that a tattoo was in order, James and I rode downtown and found a tattoo parlor and went inside, James was to sunburned but my guy said let’s do it so at age 49 I am the proud new owner of a tattoo. Got Melissa and Trevor’s names plus a feather, I think
it came out really good.
We found the rest of the gang at the restaurant and had a good dinner, one of the highlights of the day is watching the contest for who gets the couch in the motor home and who the 2 are that have to sleep on the floor, rock paper scissors, James has won the most so Shan and Ennis are on the floor. I rode around and finally found a hotel with a vacancy. I am not going to sleep on the floor of a motor home for my vacation; a hotel is roughing it enough for me.

Pensacola to Destin

I caught up with the motor home crew and they had decided that Panama was too far and we were going to stay in Destin, sky was threatening rain and frankly I was a little tired so a short ride and a day at the beach was welcome. We arrived had lunch and found a RV park, I found a hotel close by and about the time I got settled In the rains came..oh well I did some laundry and caught up on some work, spent a bit of time with the maint folks in Dallas on the phone trying to get the jet ready for pickup. Did some shopping at a nearby shop and had a coffee at a coffee house across the street, all in all a very relaxing day even took a much needed nap.
Later we all went shopping and to dinner at hooters, Florida is the place where hooters started and yet the waitresses were far from what we expected. Food was ok, company and laughter was very good.

Destin fl to Tupelo MS

Off to Tupelo and to see the boyhood home of Elvis, very pretty riding, small towns and historical buildings, if you look around in the south you will see a very strong patriotic spirit, aircraft and tanks, military hardware on display, lots of folks just sitting and talking, maybe we all need to slow down a little discover and enjoy the wealth in the friends we have. We had a good lunch at the waffle house and departed, there was a little mix up on the road signs and we were on the interstate, if you gotta ride the interstate you might as well make some time, really nothing pretty to look at. The cars were going a bunch faster than us and were weaving in and out like crazy, james and I just picked up the pace to maintain the flow of traffic and we lost Ennis and Shan, we stopped a bit later to let them catch up but it was too late, they were pissed at us and we got an ass chewing. Oh well!!!!!!
Arrived in tupelo late afternoon and promptly got lost(I was leading the pack< any wonder we were lost?) We stopped at a store and asked a young lady where we were and where was a good restaurant, she gave us directions and left, a few minutes later she returned and offered to guide us to the right areas. Very nice of her. We had a good steak dinner and the waiter told us about Tunica MS casino, we decided to ride to the area, I called and got a very nice room at the Horseshoe, won enough for the room at the craps table. Rained all night, glad we were in for the night we missed riding in the rain so far everywhere we have been. There has been flooding and heavy rain but we are lucky, no rain on us.

memphis to hot springs

I rode to Graceland and met the rest of the crew, Graceland was very cool, all the displays were of the skinny Elvis, no fat Elvis at all, he was a very cheesy guy and his taste in décor was not to my liking but to each his own.
We toured the car museum and took some pictures. Next we were off to Beal st and the Peabody hotel to see the ducks, Beal st was very neat, lots of old shops and you can just feel the history, we had a hamburger in a 100 year old restaurant and the menu says they have been using the same”ageless” grease since 1912, hope I don’t get the crud from it. It was good but not Zesto good. I need to bring Jackie and Melissa up here soon.
Seeing ducks in the lobby of a fancy hotel was neat, they just walk around as they please and swim in the fountain. Finally found a starbucks and had a latte. By the time I got my coffee the gang had returned to the motor home, looks like we are off to the next stop.
Memphis to hot springs, Day 7
Stopped for dinner in little rock and had a huge burrito, ,plans were made to continue on to Hot Springs, nice ride through the mountains, very scenic, when we arrived in Hot Springs Shan had a phone call waiting….whoops he had the keys to the motor home in his pocket, so off he went back to little rock to take jerry the keys, 1 hour each way so James ,Ennis and I rode around hot springs bath house row and historic downtown, very pretty and old, stopped and got a drink from the hot spring, tasted like regular water to me but it is supposed to have magic powers. I looked at a couple of cheap hotel rooms and decided to not be cheap and stay at a place that at least tried to clean the room. The RV Park was right across the street so we got the Motor home settled and called it a night.
Next morning off to granny’s restaurant for the best breakfast I have had in a long time. We did a little shopping and then met jerry at the Gangster Museum, Would never have guessed that Arkansas was such a hotbed of criminal activity. The museum was ok and we wanted to tour the wax museum but it was flooded, seems that every where that we went or had gone was experiencing flooding of some kind but we stayed dry . The duck tour on the duck boat was too expensive for the clan so we skipped it,
Decision was made to ride to the next town to lessen the ride on the last day so off to Arkadelphia we went and on to Texarkana for the night. I will defiantly take another trip to hot Springs to sit in the mineral bath and to do some shopping on central drive.

Texarkana to home

The guys met me at the Marriott for the final breakfast and off we were to home, me heading north to Ada alone and them west and south as a group, the buffet was good and we said good bye. Nice ride along the small back roads, very peaceful. I was watching the sky because it was supposed to rain and thunderstorm; I was hoping that I made it home before any bad weather. I was riding along engrossed in my thoughts when I felt a few rain drops.. No biggie, I can handle a light shower. It stopped almost as soon as it started. A little while later the truck I was following must have hit some mud and splattered me and the rain also started again, heavier this time but it started and stopped within about 30 seconds, just about then I figured it out. It was not raining and there was no mud, I caught a whiff and broke out of the little trance I was in to discover that I was following a cattle truck, you can guess what the rain and mud I was feeling was, I must have looked really funny riding along laughing so hard I was about to pee my pants. Bad ass bikers are not supposed to ride along with a big smile and laugh all the time, guess I’ll never fit that mold. It was very good to get home and see my sweeties, I missed them a bunch, even happy to see the useless mutt and Kachina (the puppies ). All in all a good trip, 8 states, 2363 miles and more smiles and laughs than I can count
